Aviation expert Geoffrey Thomas says it may take a few days or weeks before a Qantas flight’s engine failure breakdown occurs.

Qantas flight QF144 from Auckland made a mayday call on Wednesday following a reported engine failure and touched down safely at Sydney Airport.

“That’s something that Qantas will work with the ATSB; the crash invest incident – crash investigator – will look at,” Mr Thomas told Sky News Australia.
