Adam and Nadav Ishach hold a rocket on their farm in Bitzet, Israel. The brothers' property is less than two kilometres from Lebanon and would be at great risk if war broke out with Hezbollah
Israel is evacuating communities along its border with Lebanon, fearing Hezbollah may join the war alongside Hamas. People who live there describe increasing missile attacks and living in a constant state of alert.Brothers Nadav and Adam Ishach show a portion of a Hezbollah rocket that landed on their property in 2006, the last time Israel and the militia group went to war. Their farm is in northern Israel, within a few kilometres of the border with Lebanon, where Hezbollah is based.
The brothers are hoping their souvenir is the only missile they ever encounter. But they're not taking any chances: Their families have already evacuated in anticipation of fighting in Israel's north, far from Gaza. A spokesperson for the Israeli Defence Forces said about 30 rockets were fired from Lebanon toward Israeli positions near the border area of Mount Dov. He said Israel's retaliation hit a unit of militants, killing three.
Israel has already evacuated most of the smaller communities near the border — 28 in total, including theirs, Betzet. In late 2018 and early 2019, Israeli soldiers found six tunnels running under the border into Israel, including one that had ventilation and electricity.it believed the tunnels were built specifically to facilitate a surprise attack on Israel and to move Hezbollah fighters into the country."I was stunned with how professional it was," he said. "It's terrifying when you look at it and realise the ability that they have to come in here.
Idan Ishach calls her husband to check in. She and the couples' children have moved to a university dorm an hour south for safety.
