Former federal treasurer Josh Frydenberg says he is anguished after the Hamas terror attack and called anti-Jewish chants a “national disgrace”.
Former federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg says he has been left anguished and anxious over the rise of antisemitism in Australia, which has left Jewish students afraid to attend school or wear their uniforms, as he labelled anti-Jewish chants from outside the Sydney Opera House a “national disgrace”.
“As a person of Jewish faith growing up in a tolerant and multicultural Australia, I never thought I would feel as my grandparents did in 1933 the rising tide of European antisemitism which would consume their families in the flames of the Holocaust. But now I do.” “When leaders across the Western world, including US President Biden, UK Prime Minister Sunak and German Chancellor Scholz speak with piercing moral clarity in defence of Israel and rush to be by its side in their hour of need, it gives me comfort Israel has support where it counts,” Mr Frydenberg said.
