CNA’s Steve Lai and Teresa Tang talk to Amos Guiora, Professor of Law at the University of Utah, about the legal and humanitarian aspects of the conflict between Israel and Hamas, as the war enters its third week.
He argues that Israel’s top priority should be the releases of around 200 hostages that are being held by Hamas. “I am a firm believer and supporter of any kind of a deal – 212 for 6,000 Palestinians presently held in Israeli jails,” he said, adding that the large number of hostages held by Hamas limits the operational capability of Israel. He emphasised on the need for negotiations to resolve the conflict.
“We need to sit around a table – not a happy table, probably a yelling table – and try to negotiate this because continuing like this is frankly not sustainable for either side,” he said He argues that Israel’s top priority should be the releases of around 200 hostages that are being held by Hamas.
