The highway to Syria which cuts west from Beirut, across the mountains and through the Bekaa Valley, also came in for special attention from the Israelis.“The travel advice very clearly is ‘don’t go to Lebanon’,” Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Tuesday. “Some airlines have postponed or cancelled flights this week. Further cancellations and disruptions could occur with little or no notice. The Australian government may not be able to assist you to leave in such circumstances.”
“You should not be travelling to Lebanon and if you are an Australian in Lebanon, you should leave, and you shouldn’t be under any misapprehension in believing that it will be easy for an Australian government to get you out of there if the conflict does escalate,” he said.
