The temperature is expected to be five to 10 degrees below normal over the south coast.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Island as the province gets hit with a spell of cold air.

Arctic air is forecast to hit B.C. overnight Friday, bringing a major shift in temperature from the current mild January. In Victoria, that means nighttime temperatures of -7 C and highs around 1 C. The lows in Duncan, Nanaimo, Port Alberni and the Comox area could drop to -6 C. Add in gusty winds, and it will feel even colder.

Temperatures are expected to gradually rise late next week. However, there remains significant uncertainty on the timing of a return to seasonal temperatures.
