There’s a new ideal size in the contemporary handbag world: the midi.
Founded by two women, both Italian-French, each streamlined design is low on hardware , comes in a sophisticated array of tasteful colours and is big on practicality . Named TL-180 after the initials of the founding duo Tine Peduzzi and Luisa Orsini, both of whom stand at 180cm, the label is the happy by-product of a failed attempt at a painting career: when the girls manipulated an old canvas into “a very nice clutch”, they decided they’d turn their hand to bags instead.
Rome has given them space and time to develop designs without the pressure of needing to invent the next “it” bag. “If we were in a different city, we would feel the need to move faster, be ahead of trends, it would be absurd competition,” they comment. “In Rome, we don’t have this rush. We can stay true to our own universe, live in a beautiful and inspiring city, and keep a close eye on the quality of our bags by working closely with our artisans.
As for managing their busy pan-European lives? I’d hazard a guess there’s a Filofax being tucked into those bags, along with the requisite lip balm, credit card and house keys.Get the best of Vogue delivered to your inbox daily. Sign up to the Vogue Daily newsletter now.
