Two pre-tournament games at RECC prove to be popular holiday entertainment
This year, there may be a couple of Slovakians who they’ll point to on TV since the team played a couple of their pre-tournament games at thebefore heading to Moncton for the big event. The tournament is being played in both Moncton and Halifax.
Slovakian supporter Frank Nutar along with his daughter Fran, were among the proud and vocal Slovakian supporters taking in the action. Richard MacKenzie“Everyone was commenting on just how fast-paced the game is at this level,” he said. “I know our staff really enjoyed having the games here, the teams here, and we heard a lot of comments from patrons saying they can’t believe how fast it is …. It’s great hockey.
Ujvary, who lives in Halifax, said he has been in Canada for 28 years now after coming over for hockey having been recruited by“This is a great opportunity for all of us to get together and for our kids – the next generation – to see some of our traditions,” he said, adding hockey in Slovakia is in a good place these days with a lot of talent coming up through the ranks.
“We’ve crammed a lot of events into one month which we typically don’t do,” Bushey said. “But we had these opportunities come across to us, so we just had to capitalize on them. We thought these would be great for the community and they ended up being fantastic … so it was a win-win for everybody.”
