Former and current police officers are concerned about retribution attacks following the execution-style murder of a well-known gangland figure in Sydney's west.
A former police officer has described Tarek Ayoub as a criminal identity who was"just pure evil" and"struggled for self-relevance" prior to being gunned down in a hail of bullets by more than one shooter after visiting a female acquaintance in the early hours of Monday.Former and current police officers are concerned about retribution attacks following the execution-style murder of a well-known gangland figure in Sydney 's west.
Described by detectives as a man who"lived by the sword and died by the sword", Ayoub had many enemies in the underworld who wanted him dead. Ayoub was never loyal to one group in his decade-long involvement in crime, bouncing between different associates, or whoever was most powerful at the time. "He's just pure evil. Simple as that. He's been in a struggle for self-relevance as a young man. And then to lose your life at 29, you know, in that type of crime figure, family life, it's just sad, really. It's waste, it's a waste," he said to the Today show."I have some concerns too because the last time we had this scenario, Lakemba Police Station was shot up with a machine gun.
It is understood at least two gunmen were waiting for Ayoub outside the Parramatta unit after he met with a female acquaintance early on Monday morning.
