Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc will miss the tour of South Africa, coming as Mitch Marsh’s leadership skills were recognised with captaincy in the ODI and Twenty20 formats.
Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc have been ruled out of Australia’s white-ball tour of South Africa beginning this month, while Mitchell Marsh’s leadership has been recognised with captaincy of the one-day international and Twenty20 formats.
Smith has a tendon injury to his left wrist which means he will be sidelined for a further four weeks. His spot in the ODI team has been given to Marnus Labuschagne, who will take on his country of birth, while Perth Scorchers captain Ashton Turner joins the T20 squad.Cricket Australia said Starc has had “groin soreness” since returning from the United Kingdom, where he played in the World Test Championship final, and four of the five Ashes Tests against England.
