Indigenous leaders may wait until next year to propose a new agenda after the unsuccessful voice referendum, with some arguing privately there may need to be a renewal of leadership and more time for consultation.. But several sources from the yes campaign said they don’t want to rush into making major decisions, amid concerns that new policies proposed in the immediately after the referendum would be shot down.

Several longtime campaigners involved in the referendum process may choose not to participate in the next steps proposed by Albanese, and some campaign sources said there could be a renewal in the Indigenous leadership which engages with government.One suggested greater collaboration with state governments, to achieve action on state responsibilities including prison systems, education, health and housing concerns for Indigenous people.
