Jeremy Rockliff and Rebecca White have both claimed 'a pathway to become premier' in Tasmania's election as the Liberal government and ALP suffered heavy swings towards independents and neither party securing a majority of seats.
'An extraordinary night in politics': Premier Jeremy Rockliff and Oppsition Leader Rebecca White to fight for power as Tas election result hangs in the balance
Ms White addressed the tally room just before 10.30pm, shortly after Mr Rockliff declared"today looks like a fourth consecutive win for the Liberal Party". Gilbert swiftly reacted to the"incredible scenes in the Hobart tally room as this Tasmanian election remains up in the air". Mr Rockliff's Liberals, however, will be the largest party in parliament, with Sky News projecting 15 seats to Labor's 10.
“That’s a speech given as if she’s already spoken to the Greens leader, otherwise how else could you be that confident? Maybe she’s reached out to Lambie and Rockliff hasn’t,” Clennell said. Ms White seemingly hit out at Mr Rockliff's speech during her own, declaring"humble people don't speak of a coalition of chaos whenever they don't get their own way or claim a victory when the results aren't clear".
