Incidents due to lack of consistent support, board said
The Sault Area Hospital board of directors was informed at its regular monthly meeting held on Monday that there was an increase in patients suffering falls at the hospital in the latter months of 2022.
“There were six critical incidents reported from September to December 2022. Five were falls, and one was related to a delay in diagnosis, treatment and care. Falls continue to be the most common critical incident reported. Five improvement initiatives have been completed,” Messier-Mann wrote. “For a very long time, we did not have the PSW role as part of the staff resourcing in the emergency department. That’s something that’s been a more recent introduction to address the challenges of nursing resourcing. It’s a continual challenge, but the intention is to do our best to be able to continually focus on staffing and using different types of resources to do the best we can in keeping people safe,” said Ila Watson, SAH president and CEO.
