THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Airport was forced to close Wednesday after an aircraft suffered a runway mishap involving landing gear failure.
None of the five people on board sustained any injuries, said the Thunder Bay Airport Authority in a brief statement issued Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. and involved a charter aircraft, which was not airborne at the time. “At approximately [2:30 p.m.], a non-emergency landing gear failure on a charter aircraft taxiing on the active runway caused the temporary closure of the airport,” the authority said.
The airport said it was working to reopen its runway as quickly as possible Wednesday, but remained closed to arrivals and departures as of 5 p.m.This is a developing story and will be updated
