Over 215 lawmakers have signed the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte, triggering the formal process for her removal from office. The complaint alleges violations of the constitution and corruption. The Senate will serve as the impeachment court.

Speaker Martin Romualdez presided over the impeachment proceedings of Vice President Sara Duterte for alleged violations of the constitution and corruption, at the House of Representatives on February 5, 2025.

Presidential son and namesake Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos was the first among 215 lawmakers who signed the impeachment complaint, while Dinagat Islands Representative Alan Ecleo completed the one-third vote required by the 1987 Constitution for the “third mode” to impeach the vice president. He was the 102nd in the list of signatories. Davao del Sur Representative John Tracy Cagas was among the signatories, the only one out of 11 district representatives from Davao region. Not even PBA Party-list Representative Margarita Nograles Almario, a member of the Duterte family’s rival political clan in Davao City, signed the complaint. But more than half of Mindanao lawmakers – 41 out of 60 – supported the bid to remove the daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte, the country’s first president from Mindanao. In the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), 7 out of 8 lawmakers are among the signatories. The only exception was Basilan Representative Mujiv Hataman. At least 101 lawmakers from Luzon and 40 from the Visayas also signed the complaint. Cavite Representative Aniela Tolentino, niece of re-electionist Senator Francis Tolentino, signed the complaint. It is the Senate that will try Duterte as an impeachment court. Senatorial candidates Las Piñas Representative Camille Villar and ACT-CIS Representative Erwin Tulfo are not among the signatories. But Tulfo’s sister-in-law, fellow ACT-CIS Representative Jocelyn Tulfo, and her son, Quezon City Representative Ralph Wendell Tulfo, signed the complaint. Former president and Pampanga Representative Gloria Arroyo did not sign.
