On Wednesday, it came to light that Jean Boulet, the incumbent Coalition Avenir Québec candidate in the Trois-Rivières riding and Quebec’s immigration minister, said in a public debate that “80 per cent of immigrants arriving in Montreal do not work, do not speak French or do not adhere to the values of Quebec society.”

CAQ Leader François Legault — who himself has been in hot water for linking higher immigration levels with violence and suggesting that accepting too many newcomers could hamper the “cohesion” of Quebec society — was not pleased with his immigration minister’s statement.
