World No 2 and French Open champion Iga Swiatek has accepted a one-month ban for testing positive for trimetazidine (TMZ), a banned substance. The International Tennis Integrity Agency ruled that Swiatek's offence was unintentional, with no significant fault or negligence.

“The player was provisionally suspended from Sept 12 until Oct 4, missing three tournaments, which counts towards the sanction, leaving eight days remaining,” the ITIA said in a statement. Swiatek won the French Open in June and won a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics in August. She was ranked world No 1 for most of the past two seasons but is now No 2 to Aryna Sabalenka.She insisted in her video statement that she had “never encountered” the drug she is accused of taking.
“The WTA remains steadfast in our support for a clean sport and the rigorous processes that protect the integrity of competition. We also emphasise that athletes must take every precaution to verify the safety and compliance of all products they use, as even unintentional exposure to prohibited substances can have significant consequences.
