Under questioning, Butts shed more light on the biggest crisis Trudeau’s government has faced
On Wednesday, one of the former inhabitants of the backrooms of Justin Trudeau’s government took centre stage, answering questions from the House of Commons justice committee on the SNC-Lavalin scandal engulfing the federal government.
Butts: I think there’s a grey area in what you think is a political consideration, but I think you’re also alluding to conversations I wasn’t part of. I certainly never made any comment of the sort.Randy Boissonnault : Mr. Butts, if you did nothing wrong, why did you resign? Butts: As I outlined in some detail in my statement, I do not believe that we were aware that the AG had made a final decision at the time.
Boissonnault: So how many meetings, ballpark, would the PMO have had with the finance minister’s office over the purchase of the TMX pipeline?Boissonnault: So five meetings? Fifty meetings? Thirty meetings? How many meetings in the first couple of weeks on TMX?On the issue of whether or not these sorts of meetings were typical
Butts: No, no, and I, you know, I appeal to the firsthand knowledge of the people who have worked with me over the years on very delicate, sensitive matter,s including many of you around the table and ask you whether or not that is in keeping with my character to do such a thing.Raitt: Mr. Butts you said that you had reviewed your texts since you had resigned from PMO.
