IBP Zambales and NCIP Launch Campaign Against Child Marriage in Indigenous Communities

A partnership between the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Zambales Chapter and the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) Zambales aims to raise awareness about the Anti-Child Marriage Law and its implications for Indigenous Peoples (IP) communities.

The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Zambales Chapter and the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) in Zambales signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) at Subic Bay Travelers Hotel recently to launch a collaborative campaign aimed at addressing child marriage in Indigenous Peoples (IP) communities across the province.The partnership will spearhead an information, education and communication (IEC) campaign promoting awareness of Republic Act No.

11596, also known as the 'Anti-Child Marriage Law.' This initiative seeks to educate IP communities on the law's provisions, penalties, and implications, while highlighting the harmful effects of early marriage on children's rights, health and education.Set to roll out this year, the campaign will include legal education sessions, lectures, and community discussions led by volunteer lawyers and resource experts. The program will adopt culturally sensitive approaches to ensure its relevance and effectiveness in addressing traditional practices while fostering compliance with the law.This partnership underscores the shared commitment of IBP Zambales and NCIP Zambales to safeguarding children's rights, promoting legal literacy, and empowering Indigenous Peoples to build safer, healthier communities
