Former football manager and pundit Graeme Souness reflects on his high blood pressure as he launches a campaign urging people to get checked
Graeme Souness is fronting a new blood pressure campaign I’ve always really enjoyed working out. I appreciate that might seem obvious given I spent decades as a professional footballer, but even now, long since I’ve retired, I’m in the gym constantly. I’m the type of person who, if he works out six days in a week, feels guilty for missing that seventh.
It’s incredibly helpful as well that pharmacies are able to help with this campaign – it’s free and you don’t need to book in advance. It’s simply a matter of Googling your nearest pharmacy, getting that sleeve on the arm and the quick check, and you’re on your way within five minutes. Two of my uncles died prematurely, and my dad had his own bypass at 70, so it was always likely to be an issue for me.
