First term Teal MP Monique Ryan told her chief of staff Sally Rugg that she needed staff who were prepared to work as hard as her because “I want to be the prime minister one day', court documents have revealed.
The legal dispute between the Kooyong MP and her chief of staff Sally Rugg returned to court on Friday, after mediation “failed to resolve” the matter.
According Ms Rugg’s affidavit, Dr Ryan said her employment wasn’t “working out” because “you are not working hard enough”. “She ceased to greet Ms Rugg, was short with her, ‘snubbed’ her in front of colleagues, stopped inviting her to some meetings, [and] froze her out of certain decisions.” Ms Rugg, who described the warning as"dubious" said it was not illegal to travel with COVID at the time and her doctor had advised it was “best to isolate at home”. She claimed that Dr Ryan told her it was a"media and brand risk".
Dr Ryan was the only MP to wear a mask in a photo of MPs and Senators following the Ukrainian ambassador's visit to the Australian Parliament. She was also the only person wearing a mask in court on Friday.
