As a new study suggests time-restricted eating may raise the risk of heart attacks, Molly Gunn says it's become a cult - and it made her feel faint, 'hangry' and stressed

As a new study suggests time-restricted eating may raise the risk of heart attacks, Molly Gunn says it's become a cult - and it made her feel faint, 'hangry' and stressed has taken the world by storm. Friends of mine rave about it; my husband finished six weeks of it before our recent holiday.

But new research has suggested it might not be all it’s hyped up to be. A major new study, which tracked 20,000 people, found those whoand ate within an eight-hour window were nearly twice as likely to die of heart attacks and strokes, compared with those who spread their eating across the day. It’s satisfying news for those, like me, who can’t get on with this kind of eating style and have felt like we’re missing out.

It’s not that I don’t think diets like these have short-term benefits – often the weight loss is quite visual – but my distrust in them is that they’re faddish, and often unsustainable long-term. More often than not, people adopt trend-diets then go back to old ways., where you do 5 days fasting and 2 days off, and the whole country was hooked.

She says for most of us, especially if you’re a healthy weight, it’s “far better to eat three meals a day, not snack in between and not eat in the evening if you can.”
