"I was vomiting and had diarrhoea and I sort of just tried to sleep it off. And the next day — so, two days after the poisoning — I went and saw the doctor," he said. "Seven days into it was probably the worst. That's when I started to black out, just see the tunnel vision and lights. I was lying down and was just barely conscious," he said.Finally, after 11 days in hospital, he turned a corner and was able to be discharged."He basically just explained that the mushrooms are an organic thing," he said.
He said it was very rare to see a death cap poisoning, which he said was "right up there with the most lethal, toxic ingestions that any patient can have"."It's extremely dangerous. Even one mushroom can kill an adult patient and even more so in a child," he told 7.30.
Heather Wilkinson died from suspected mushroom poisoning while Ian Wilkinson remains in a critical condition in hospital."Lots of people forage all sorts of things. We have apple trees growing on the side of the road, chestnut trees growing on the side of the road, plum trees growing on the side of the road," he said."At the right time of year up here you'll find Slippery Jacks, Slippery Jills, Saffron Milk Caps … various field mushrooms.
