Katy Gallagher has declared she has 'always acted ethically and with basic human decency' as she vehemently rejects suggestions she misled parliament over allegations she knew about Brittany Higgins' sexual assault claim days before it was made public.

The Finance Minister issued a statement on Tuesday afternoon in the Senate where she rejected the allegations made against her in recent days.

"I was told by one of your Senators two weeks before about what you were intending to do with the story in my office," Ms Reynolds. On Tuesday, the Finance Minister expressed she was"shocked" by the assertion made by the former Liberal frontbencher. "Senator Reynolds even said so on the record in Senate estimates that same night, and I quote, 'I would like to say in relation to the matters raised before the dinner break, Senators Wong, Gallagher and I had a very respectful discussion before the dinner break and they assured me they were not involved in the matter becoming public'," Ms Gallagher said.

She said Ms Higgins made her story public on her own volition and emphasised she"did nothing with that information".
