ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Garry Ivany’s lawyer might not have been ready to proceed with his case in court Tuesday, May 14, but he was.
“I’m on remand and I’m not sitting here for a year waiting for disclosure and another year and a half waiting for trial. I’d rather set dates now and have it done.”Mercer postponed Ivany’s matter for a couple days to allow time for Moulton to receive the information. The case will be called again Thursday.Mercer told him he’d have to speak with his lawyer about it.Ivany was arrested Feb. 10 after what police describe as a crime spree from St. John’s to Gander.
Later that night, when a thief was caught on video stealing from a Gander bar, Mounties reviewed the footage and identified Ivany, a Gander resident, as the suspect. The morning after that, Ivany broke into an Orange Store on the Trans-Canada Highway in Gander and stole cigarettes, according to the RCMP. He was arrested that night at an apartment complex.
