Mr Shanmugam added that he and Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, who has also faced scrutiny over renting a black and white bungalow in Ridout Road, had requested an"People are entitled to questions," he said."You cannot let doubts about the integrity of ministers fester and be left unaddressed. I have nothing to hide."
Separately, Dr Balakrishnan gave brief comments to reporters on Tuesday at the Ministry of Communications and Information building on Hill Street. "It's also said that I acted in conflict of interest, and so on. I don't want to comment much until SM Teo's review is done," said Mr Shanmugam.The issue arose after opposition Reform Party chief Kenneth Jeyaretnam wrote a series of articles in early May questioning whether the ministers were"paying less than the fair market value" for the properties.
