A Paralympic swimmer has opened up on how she feels unsafe in her home after being targeted by thieves for a second time in nine months, with a crucial mobility vehicle stolen over the weekend.
Karni Liddell has issued an emotional plea to the Queensland government to implement preventive community measures for teenagers in Brisbane, amid a surge in thefts.
Liddell described the impact of the theft to Sky News Australia, stressing she needed the mobility vehicle to navigate her Kangaroo Point neighbourhood which is full of hills. “I’ve lost so much… They’ve stolen my independence, I can't walk my dogs now,” she said on Tuesday morning. The devastating blow follows another theft in October last year, when two men took her accessible car and threw her electric wheelchair onto a road.
“I’m tired of the fight. I don't want to fight with the NDIS or another insurance company to get it back,” she added.
