B.C. firm HTEC opened its fifth hydrogen refuelling station in Kelowna and broke ground on a production plant in Burnaby to open in 2024.
Compared with electric vehicles and hybrids, the hydrogen-car market is tiny with only about 200 cars on the road now, and both vehicles and hydrogen production still heavily subsidized.
The early 2000s’ promise to build a hydrogen highway from B.C. to California was “more of a technology demonstration highway than perhaps the physical highway people were thinking about,” Armstrong said. Armstrong said Japan and South Korea are further ahead with thousands of cars on the road, and in China where there has been a push on hydrogen in heavy transportation.Article content
