Hurricanes defenceman Trevor van Riemsdyk and goaltender Petr Mrazek have both been forced out of today's game against the Islanders with injuries.
Van Riemsdyk suffered an upper-body injury, the team announced.April 28, 2019
The injury appeared to occur early in the first period. After following the puck behind Carolina’s net, van Riemsdyk found himself on the receiving end of a hard hit into the boards from Islanders forward Cal Clutterbuck. Van Riemsdyk skated to the bench immediately, holding his shoulder. In 78 regular season games with the Hurricanes, van Riemsdyk posted three goals and 11 assists. Throughout Carolina’s playoff run so far, he has not registered a point, though the defender is one of the few Hurricanes players who’s previously endured the Stanley Cup grind, having won during his time with Chicago.
Later in the period, goaltender Mrazek was also forced to leave the game with an apparent lower-body injury. Mrazek has been essential to the Hurricanes so far in the playoffs, posting a 2.22 goals-against average to go along with a .914 save percentage in eight appearances.
