STORY CONTINUES BELOW THESE SALTWIRE VIDEOSCHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Hurricane Lee, which is expected to hit the Maritimes this weekend, will not be as severe as post-tropical storms Fiona and Dorian but will be impactful, said SaltWire's weather specialist.
As of the morning of Sept. 13, Allister Aalders said the hurricane will lose its tropical characteristics, but its impact will be wider. “I think it's important to note that, at this point in time, it's not looking to be anything near the magnitude of storms like Fiona or Dorian. That is not to diminish the storm – it will still be very impactful and it has the potential to bring certainly damaging winds, heavy rain and storm surge.”Rain will start to develop through the morning of Sept. 16 and into the afternoon with showers lingering into Sept.
“So that is something we need to keep an eye on, in terms of the rainfall. If this track to the west holds, that will keep the most significant rainfall out of the region, which would be a good sign because if it does track closer to the region, we would be looking at a threat of heavy rain, you know 100 to 150 millimetres.”“For P.E.I. at this point, it is still too early for specifics. It does look like if the track remains western, we will avoid any significant rainfall.
