An asylum seeker in the Direct Provision system has ended his hunger strike following assurances from the Department of Justice that he will not be deported.Nadim Hussain was forced to leave his home country of India following the deaths of his parents in March of 2018.He applied for refugee status and was placed in a Direct Provision centre in Cork until further notice.
Denied refugee status, Hussain subsequently waited several weeks for a response from the Department of Justice as he requested permission to stay in Ireland. in an effort to receive the attention of Minister for Justice Heather Humphreys in order to to assure his safety. Nadim's case has caught the attention of the Irish public and he shared his gratitude in a video shared to Twitter on Friday night following the ending of the hunger strike.Hunger Strike just ended and Nadim received assurances from his legal team after discussions with the Justice Department that he will not be Deported. Thank you everyone!!!
