More than 300 people will be spending their New Year’s stranded in the middle of the Pacific after a flight from Los Angeles to Sydney was diverted halfway through its journey.
United Airlines Flight 839 was making the journey from Los Angeles to Sydney when it was forced to divert to Pago Pago due to an issue with the right engine.
He said there was no real accommodation for the afflicted passengers, just a hangar with “some rooms to shower”. My daughter is now stranded, United decided to fly another plane in from LAXâ¦should depart 3am 12/31 Pago Pago time. They showered at hanger, got tour of Island and drinking beers on deserted beach.Another woman said her son and granddaughters were on the flight and had been welcomed by the “incredibly generous” Samoan locals. She further criticised the “silence” from United Airlines.
