Robyn, 51, and Chris, 53, met when he bought some furniture from her on eBay. They now live together in Melbourne with their children (and the sofas)

hen Robyn decided to spring-clean her home in 2019, she was hoping for a fresh start after her divorce. “I was living in Melbourne with my two children and working as an urban designer for the government,” she says. As part of the clear out, she put two sofas for sale on eBay.

They agreed a price and a time for Chris to come and collect one of the sofas. “Two guys my age arrived at my front door in their exercise gear,” says Robyn. “I was chatting a million miles an hour.” She managed to convince Chris to buy the other sofa in the set, and the pair exchanged numbers under the premise of arranging the payment. “There was definitely some chemistry there,” she says. Chris admits he was “captivated” by Robyn.

Robyn knew she wanted to see him again. “For me it was all very new and overwhelming, but also really exciting,” she says. “Because I’d not long been divorced, my parents were still coming down from Queensland a lot. I remember having to borrow their car to go on dates a few times. My mum was home, asking me how it all went. It felt like a teenage flashback.”Describing the early days as a “rollercoaster” of emotions, Robyn says they became a serious couple quickly.

Robyn believes that communication and compromise are key to a happy, blended family. “There’s a deep level of commitment between us and knowing we want the same things,” she says. “I love how many similarities Chris and I have. It’s soothing and calming to know that we can grow old together.”

Voice to Parliament ‘furphies’ designed to create ‘fear and alarm’: Chris KennyVoice to Parliament ‘furphies’ designed to create ‘fear and alarm’: Chris KennySky News host Chris Kenny has urged critics of the Voice to Parliament to stick to the facts and not run “baseless scare campaigns”. Mr Kenny said there are a lot of “furphies” being thrown around about the Voice. “Furphies like ‘the Voice positions never involving elections’ are just wrong,” he said. “Suggestions the National Indigenous Australians Agency is already the Voice are wrong, that's essentially just the Department of Indigenous Affairs and the people who pretend it's effectively a Voice know that, and suggestions the Voice would have to be consulted on police operations are simply absurd. “All these furphies are designed to create fear and alarm.”

Chris Kenny exposes Labor and left ‘hypocrisy’ on NT’s Indigenous ‘crisis’Chris Kenny exposes Labor and left ‘hypocrisy’ on NT’s Indigenous ‘crisis’The Indigenous “social law and order crisis” in Alice Springs has had to weather “hypocrisy” from Labor and the left, says Sky News host Chris Kenny. “Opposition leader Peter Dutton called it out a fortnight ago,” Mr Kenny said. “Well, the response from Labor Party and the Green left media was to demand that the Coalition go to police. “With the unspoken insinuation, of course, that the Coalition was inventing or exaggerating these claims.”

Jim Chalmers not ‘in a generous mood’ as ‘fiscal reality’ haunts budgetJim Chalmers not ‘in a generous mood’ as ‘fiscal reality’ haunts budgetSky News host Chris Kenny says Treasurer Jim Chalmers was not “in a generous mood” after telling Labor backbenchers who proposed an increase to JobSeeker payments that he needs to ‘make it all add up’. “Ah yes, fiscal reality, budgetary constraints – all that stuff Labor didn’t think so much about when it was getting people’s hopes up from opposition,” Mr Kenny said. “Talk about overpromising and underdelivering. “Just add this one to the broken electricity price promise, the pledge that interest rates would be lower and the cost of living too.”
