When Daryl Maguire’s corruption scandal broke, he urged her to publicly rebuke him and distance herself from him. His texts suggest a man more capable of selfless love than many of the elite who might have been more suitable partners. In contrast, when Berejiklian set her new government’s agenda, she urged ministers to put forward their ideas but didn’t offer any herself. She often told people it was their interests and concerns that were her priority.
