The merged Adelaide University aims to deliver the best graduate employment outcomes in the country, according to its vision statement.
“Peter [Hoj] and I get on very well as human beings, and we see eye to eye on the philosophy of education,” Professor Lloyd told“The two senior management groups have been brought together on a number of occasions, which has never happened before, and they are working as a team. There is no rivalry. There is no opposition. There is no protectionism. Everyone wants to make something better than what currently exists.
The new university would concentrate its research efforts in state-building areas such as defence and national security, space and advanced technologies, energy and resources, food and food security and health and wellbeing, the statement says.“The university would – in its own right – become an economic powerhouse for the state,” the statement says.
A final decision will be made by mid-year whether the merger will go ahead, with the universities still waiting for word from the South Australian Treasury that there will be funding to cover most of the costs of bringing the two universities together.
