B.C. government lawsuit details how 'grandparent scam' works

The fake officer gave the grandmother “instructions to put the $6,000 in a sealed envelope with her and her grandson’s first and last names written on the front,” the lawsuit said, adding that the caller advised her that someone would come to her house to collect the cash “at which time he would have her grandson released from custody.”Article contentThe grandmother then got another call from “Spring” asking for an additional $8,000 for her grandson’s release.
Police then set up covert surveillance around her house and instructed her “to fill an envelope with paper to give to the messenger who was arriving to collect it.”
