Don't be surprised if you suddenly can't read new posts. Twitter TechNave

Two days ago, Elon Musk introduced a temporary feature on the bird app that sparked a massive conversation among its users. The latest Twitter rate limit is intended by Elon to “address extreme levels of data scraping and system manipulation”.

This development is one of the many features proposed and imposed on Twitter since its $44 Billion acquisition by Elon last year. As of now, verified users can view up to 6000 posts per day while unverified accounts are limited to 600 posts daily. But that’s not all, those who just signed up for Twitter would be the most affected as their views are restricted to 300 posts daily. Users who exceeded their daily quota would receive a “rate limit exceeded” message afterwards.

However, things might get better as the man himself said that the rate limit might be increased to 10,000 for verified accounts, 1000 for unverified accounts and 600 for new unverified users. Elon Musk has been pushing for a more attractive verified service, with notable profiles given special badges. He also revealed tier services based on paid subscriptions.

Twitter users are understandably baffled and upset with the sudden changes, citing #TwitterDown and #RIPTwitter, which have also been trending for a few days now. Long-time Twitter users who were upset with this matter have now resorted to Twitter-like platforms such as Bluesky and Mastodon. The Bluesky CEO’s said that the sign-ups for the app saw a “record high traffic” after Musk’s announcement on the limits.
