Former energy regulator says the Albanese government should offer subsidies to households to use power outside peak times to speed up the energy transition.
Subsidies should be offered to households to use power outside peak times, as part of reforms to speed up the energy transition, former energy regulator Kerry Schott has said.
The Energy Security Board was disbanded by the government last year after disagreements over whether gas plants should be included in a capacity investment scheme designed to shore up the grid as coal power exits. Tony Wood, energy program director at The Grattan Institute, said climate and energy minister Chris Bowen should make use of the National Energy Transformation Partnership he set up last year to turbocharge the development of rules and market mechanisms needed to boost demand response and VPPs to their potential.
