The House Committee on Constitutional Amendments is eyeing to start by last week of August its marathon hearings on resolutions proposing to amend certain provisions of the 29-year old 1987 Constitution.

Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, chairman of the panel, said they initially wanted to deliberate on the proposals on the federal shift by “third or fourth week” of August after his panel completed its members.

“I am confident once the committee gets rolling, we will immediately meet every twice month–every second and fourth week of the month, at 9:30 a.m., that’s our schedule. We will expedite this,” Rodriguez, who authored Cha-Cha resolutions, said. Rodriguez said he would ask the House leadership to allow his panel to deliberate on the Cha-cha measures, as the House Committee on Appropriations, chaired by Davao City Rep. Isidro Ungab is set to tackle the proposed 2020 P4.1 trillion national budget.

The concurrent resolution sets at four years the term of office of senators and prohibits them to serve more than three consecutive terms. The proposal authorizes Congress to provide for the exploration, development, and utilization of natural resources.
