A severe thunderstorm struck Sydney on Monday morning after the Bureau of Meteorology warned of damaging winds across New South Wales.
Millions of residents posted videos of the chaotic winds moments after the storm struck.
"This storm in CBD of sydney, australia only lasted 10min but what was extraordinary was that in those 10min 27mm of rain fell," one user wrote. Others confirmed flights had been delayed at Sydney Airport with passengers now waiting at the aircraft. "My flight is delayed because of the storm currently hitting Sydney there is a tarmac and planes out there beyond the torrential rain," one wrote. this storm in CBD of sydney,australia only lasted 10min but what was extraordinary was that in those 10min 27mm of rain fell. 35mm of rain was recorded in the west in the same time frame. thats a 162mm an hour rain rate!
