A council in Sydney is rolling out vending machines for free period products at public venues and is calling on other local government areas to follow suit.

abc.net.au/news/free-pads-tampons-pools-libraries-inner-west-council-sydney/101781212Free period products will now be available at pools and other locations throughout Sydney's inner west, in what the local council says is a state first.Deputy Mayor Philippa Scott has called on other councils to follow suitInner West Council recently installed 10 contactless vending machines dispensing free pads and tampons at sites across Ashfield, Marrickville, Leichhardt and Balmain.

"There are women and girls who are missing out on opportunities, be they at work or educational opportunities or sporting opportunities, because they have their period," Cr Scott said. Close to half of the respondents said they had missed at least a day of school because of their period.
