Honda has announced its next-generation hybrid platform, which will debut in 2027. The brand has also rolled out prototypes of Honda Hybrid Sedan and Acura Hybrid SUV, both expected to go on sale within the next two years. The new hybrids will be equipped with a new electric AWD system and aim to reduce costs by at least 30%.
It has been a troubling time for Honda as of late. In March 2026, the Japanese carmaker scrapped its 0 Series of electric vehicles, leading to a $15.7 billion write-off.
Shortly after, the Afeela brand, its joint EV venture with Sony, was also binned. And while Honda launched the all-new Prelude in this same season, the coupe’s return was met with strong pushback regarding its price. It is unclear if these new Hondas will still use the e:HEV moniker.

PHOTO BY Honda You may recall that Honda revealed its Next-Generation Hybrid Studies in November 2025, which interestingly share some of the same details with the new prototypes.
A dual-motor setup will still likely be used, along with the S+Shift technology for a simulated transmission. Powertrains will probably stay between 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter engines, but with improved efficiency as previously mentioned.
