The organization has been facing revolt from sponsors and from provincial organizations that say they have lost confidence in the governing body.
The top leadership of Hockey Canada are being replaced as the embattled national sporting body deals with the fallout from an evolving scandal around the use of a multimillion-dollar fund to pay off sexual assault victims.
Chief executive Scott Smith is leaving the organization. Hockey Canada’s board of directors has agreed to leave their posts “to make room for a new slate of directors,” Hockey Canada said in a statement Tuesday. The organization has been facing revolt from sponsors and from provincial organizations that say they have lost confidence in the governing body’s ability to respond to a governance crisis sparked by an out-of-court settlement with a woman who claimed to have been sexually assaulted by eight members of Canada’s national junior team after a golf tournament and gala in 2018.
On Tuesday morning, corporate sponsor Bauer announced it was suspending its partnership in response to the slate of problems at Hockey Canada.
