The jury was told Tuesday that the trial will not resume until Nov. 28.
“We are unfortunately going to have to take a longer break in our criminal trial. This type of adjournment does occur from time to time in our criminal justice system,” Superior Court Justice Anne London-Weinstein told the jury.
“And I can assure you the decision to adjourn to Nov. 28 was not one taken lightly. It was done for an important reason and I ask you not speculate as to what that reason might be.”Article content The judge apologized for any inconvenience and cautioned jury members not to conduct their own Google searches about the trial, or to search social media.
The Crown concluded its case against Hikoalok in late September, presenting the jury with DNA evidence that linked him to the crime scene. His DNA profile matched DNA taken from the victim’s body. Forensic investigators also found traces of Salm’s blood on his shoe and bracelet, court heard. Forensic evidence presented at trial showed Salm suffered fractures to both orbital bones and extensive bruising, along with injuries to her throat that were consistent with choking.
