After nearly three months of wildfire-related closures, Highway 4 is expected to reopen to two-lane traffic Thursday evening, according to the MLA for the area

After nearly three months of closures, Highway 4 to Port Alberni and the west coast communities of Tofino and Ucluelet is set to open to two-lane traffic Thursday evening.

Crews have been working to stabilize the rock face fractured by a June 6 wildfire along Cameron Lake bluffs, but that work is now complete, Osborne said. The highway has been plagued by closures since the wildfire, with limited openings to single-lane alternating traffic. A detour was put in place via Lake Cowichan and the Bamfield area, but took drivers four hours.
