The heat continues as Echague, Isabela recorded the highest air temperature so far this year at 41.2 degrees Celsius on Monday afternoon (May 11).

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration also recorded high air temperatures in Tuguegarao City ; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro ; Camiling, Tarlac , and Hacienda Luisita, also in Tarlac .

San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, meanwhile, registered on Monday a heat index of 56 degrees Celsius. It is 2 degrees Celsius lower than the highes heat index so far this year of 58 degrees Celsius, also recorded in San Jose last April 20. Heat index is the measurement of how hot it really feels when relative humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature.

According to the weather bureau, heat index is what humans perceive or feel as the temperature affects their body. High air temperatures and high relative humidity tend to give high apparent temperatures or indices.Based on the PAGASA’s historical data, the all-time high air temperature in the Philippines was recorded in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan on May 11, 1969 at 42.2 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the highest recorded air temperature in Metro Manila was 38.5 degrees Celsius on May 14, 1987.
