A new rail link in California that is expected to be used for high-speed trains has received $3.4 billion in federal funding.
On Monday, it was announced the federal government has committed $3.4 billion to build 'The Portal,' a new rail link extending Caltrain's network to the multimodal Salesforce Transit Center in San Francisco and eventually linking the California High-Speed Rail to its northern terminus, in a significant boost for high-speed rail.
'Today, we celebrated major milestones at the Transit Center in our decades-long effort to bring electrified rail service into the heart of San Francisco.'The Portal's construction will make it easier for commuters to get to work, for shoppers to support our local businesses and for communities to stay connected, while reducing our city's carbon footprint.
