The federal government payout to former political staffer Brittany Higgins could be referred to the new national anti-corruption commission following revelations aired in a bombshell interview with Bruce Lehrmann.
Sky News Australia’s Sharri Markson revealed the payout – reported to be valued at upwards of $3 million – could be scrutinised by the corruption watchdog amid bombshell details uncovered during Bruce Lehrmann’s interview with the Seven Network on Sunday.
“I’ve got a friend in Labor, Katie Gallagher on the Labor side, who will probe and continue it going,” he said. “Whether or not Katy Gallagher admitted she was friends with Sharaz when the payment was awarded still needs to be investigated. During the Seven interview, Mr Sharaz and Ms Wilkinson discussed how they may enlist then-opposition leader Anthony Albanese and Tanya Plibersek to probe the issue in Parliament.
“In both the Senate, and the House of Representatives, Higgins’ welfare became a distant memory, as the attacks on Morrison grew.”
