The Opposition says it will create a new research body modelled on the US agency that gave the world the internet, GPS and Siri.
A Labor government would create a new research body for top secret and cutting defence technology, modelled along the lines of the United States’ agency that gave the world technology such as the internet, GPS, Apple’s Siri and stealth aircraft.
“This is leaving Australia vulnerable to strategic technological surprises,” Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese said.the United States and United Kingdom by funding pivotal research in breakthrough technologies.“ASRA will boost Australia’s involvement in technology sharing and research and development, through the new AUKUS partnership,” he said.
“ASRA would ensure cutting-edge research from public sources, such as universities and industry, and classified research from industry and other government agencies , are supported and co-ordinated.
