The 10-year-old boy who was critically injured in the fatal crash that killed his mother is set to undergo five surgeries within six hours today as he remains in hospital.

Nicholas remains in the Queensland Children's Hospital in a critical but stable condition after a helicopter he was a passenger in collided with another mid-air, killing four people, including his mother. While his condition remains very serious, it is unlikely to get worse and is an improvement from the critical condition he has been in since the accident on January 2.
The grade five student is expected to undergo five operations over some six hours today, a family friend posted on Facebook."There's been some miracles with small wins overcoming these setbacks," the friend wrote.
